NORTH AMERICAN TRADITIONAL INDIGENOUS FOOD SYSTEMS

American Unagi – A project of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, American Unagi produces frozen and smoked eel- a traditional food among people on the Atlantic coast. Netted in coastal rivers as young “glass eels,” they are grown and harvested in Maine to be used in many gourmet preparations.

Big Grassy First Nation – This Canadian First Nation supplies us with organic manoomin (wild rice) harvested from northern Saskatchewan. The IFL Market is proud to package and sell this rice as our “Sa’be” (Bigfoot) wild rice- it has outstanding flavor and the long grains make it perfect for puffing.

Binesi Creations – Pam Johns Danforth from the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin provides us with an array of snack products including maple candied pecans and fruit & nut bars. She also provides us with traditional Oneida corn mush flour, which can be used to make a hearty and healthy oatmeal alternative for breakfasts.

Blue Corn Custom Design – Diné (Navajo) artisan Rochelle Garcia harvests and burns juniper to make culinary ash, a traditional ingredient in many Diné recipes. The ash can be used with blue corn to make a traditional corn mush, to add flavor to soups and stews, or to add a beautiful indigo tint to food.

Haipažaža Phežúta – Lakota makers creating sustainable and ethical body care products! Their medicine soaps, body oils, and fragrances have been a huge hit with IFL Market customers.

Passamaquoddy Maple – The IFL Market has also started carrying another product of the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Maine, from their Passamaquoddy Maple project. The IFL Market carries their maple sugar in two sizes, as well as their delicious maple drop candies.

Salmon King Fisheries – Owned by Bridget McConville from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in Oregon, Salmon King offers fresh and smoked canned salmon products. Great for using in recipes or eating right out of the can!

Siyeh Corporation – Made from tribally-raised bison, Iinnii bison jerky comes to us from the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. Using 100% bison meat, the jerky is available in two flavors (Original and Black Pepper) and is already a favorite in the IFL Market!
